ABOUT DELTA SIGMA PI

Our Purpose

Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce, and to further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community.

Fraternity History

Delta Sigma Pi has a rich history that spans over a century. Founded on November 7, 1907, at the School of Commerce, Accounts, and Finance of New York University, the fraternity was established to promote and encourage the study of business in academic institutions.

The four founding fathers, Harold Valentine Jacobs, Alfred Moysello, Alexander Frank Makay, and Henry Albert Tienken, aimed to create an organization that would foster the development of future business leaders and bridge the gap between the business world and academia. They envisioned a fraternity that would combine practical business experience, networking opportunities, and a commitment to academic excellence. Throughout 20th century, Delta Sigma Pi rapidly grew, establishing many chapters and earning a top business fraternity reputation.

Today, Delta Sigma Pi thrives by embracing technology, diversity, and inclusion. It totals over 300 collegiate chapters and a global network of distinguished alumni. Committed to professionalism, ethics, and leadership, Delta Sigma Pi supports members in their careers and has left a lasting mark on the business world.

Professionalism

Delta Sigma Pi employs a rigorous program of professional development for our members, beginning with collegiate membership and continuing for life. Our members enjoy high-quality training, frequent events with business and cultural leaders, opportunities to mentor and be mentored by leaders in their fields, and supportive friendships that strengthen both professional and personal success and fulfillment.

Service

Delta Sigma Pi members learn to cultivate an attitude of service to our communities, supporting the cultural and civic organizations that impact the lives of individuals and families wherever we live with our time, talents, and treasure. This commitment to philanthropy and service characterizes our alumni and collegiate chapters. Delta Sigma Pi designates Ronald McDonald House Charities as its national philanthropy.

Scholarship

Delta Sigma Pi places a strong emphasis on academic achievement. Since 1912, the fraternity has awarded scholarships to deserving students, recognizing excellence across the student body. Additionally, it presents a Scholarship Key to the graduating student with the highest academic average in business administration or economics at each participating school. The Delta Sigma Pi Leadership Foundation funds the Scholarship Key, which has been awarded since 1945.

Brotherhood

Brotherhood is a fundamental principle in Delta Sigma Pi that encourages unity, support, and camaraderie among members. It fosters lifelong friendships and connections, creating a valuable network of like-minded individuals who share similar values and goals. Brotherhood instills a feeling of belonging, providing support, understanding, and encouragement throughout each member's personal and professional journey.
